Very superstitious

We all hear the superstitions when the 13th day of the month falls on a Friday. Besides, no player on earth wants to wear the number 13. Superstitions and rituals like these have been a part of sports since we started playing them. Whether it's drinking urine or talking to goal posts, some athletes have used weird rituals to help take their game to the next level.

Michael Jordan
Even the greatest basketball player of all time, Michael Jordan, relies on superstitions. He always wore his blue North Carolina shorts under his Bulls uniform for good luck. In order to cover his lucky pair, Jordan began wearing longer shorts, which inspired a trend in the NBA.

Serena & Venus Williams
Serena and Venus Williams do also have their own superstitions. Serena believes much of her winning ways are the result of routines, which includes: bringing her shower sandals to the court, tying her shoelaces a specific way and bouncing the ball five times before her first serve and twice before her second. She will even wear the same pair of socks during a tournament run.

Also her sister, Venus Williams, has an explanation for her incredible performances.  Venus is pining for her dog ‘Bobby’, who is stuck at home in Florida thanks to quarantine laws. The Yorkshire terrier is really important in her training, so she says: ‘If Bobby were here, he'd be a joy every day. He helps me warm up on the court. He's quite noisy and makes me feel good. He's a feel-good dog. I didn't even bring a picture of him.’

Wade Boggs
If you want to know about superstitions in baseball, Wade Boggs is a perfect case study.
He is also known as the "Chicken Man’, because he would eat poultry before every game and was obsessively compulsive about his routine. He took exactly 150 ground balls during infield practice and had a fixation on time.
Before each at-bat, he would write the Hebrew word "Chai" (“Life”) into the dirt of the batter's box.
Between pitches, he had a habit if he was playing defence: he'd swipe the dirt in front of him with his left foot, tap his glove two or three times and adjust his cap. And those are just a few of dozens of Wade Boggs's superstitions.

Jason Terry
Easily the most superstitious player in the NBA, Jason Terry's list of quirks includes eating chicken before games like Wade Boggs and wearing five pairs of socks while playing. However, the most bizarre habit occurs while he is sleeping. The night before every game, Terry goes to bed while wearing the shorts of the next day's opposing team.

Where are the women?

The Olympic Games are the most famous and important sports festival around the world. Both, Summer and Winter Games are held every four years. The Olympics started about 2000 years ago in Olympia, Greece. That is why they named it the Olympics. The games were held in honor of the god Zeus and the purpose was for young men to show their qualities.

Before the Olympic Games in Paris (1900), women were not allowed to participate in the Olympics. Only Greek men were allowed and they had to be naked, because that was the only manner to check their gender. For the women it was not allowed to go outside and that is why it was not possible to compete or even watch the games. Except for unmarried girls and virgins, they were allowed to only watch the spectacle. Men took their eligible daughters to the events to go for husband-hunting. When any other women did go to this Olympic sports game anyway, they were murdered.

The Greek woman ‘Kalipateira’ was so eager to see her son, who was a boxer, she was dressed like a trainer. When he won his match, she ran to him, lost her cape and at that moment that everybody saw that she was a woman. Because her son had won the game, she was not punished but from 1928 women were allowed to participate in a team. From 1952, women were also allowed to participate individually.

Women and the Olympics
Athens 1896 - the first edition of the modern Olympic Games, no women competed.
Paris 1900 - for the first time in history, eleven women were allowed to compete in tennis and golf. Charlotte Cooper was the first woman who won a golden medal!
Stockholm 1912 - alsow swimming was allowed for women. Except American women, because America did not allow its female athletes to practise sport activities without long skirts. This edition, the first golden medal in wimming was secured by a woman!
Amsterdam 1928 - women did compete in track and field events, but till 1960 it was banned again, because a lot of women did not survive very well.
Los Angeles 1984 - shooting sports for women were allowed.
Sydney 2000 - the strongest Olympic women could show their skills, because weightlifting was allowed for the first time.
Fortunately, women can now just participate without subordination. Meanwhile, there is a new rule that new sports only have a chance to gain Olympic status when they are practiced by both men and women.

Some handsome

It is terrible to write a blog about handsome athletes. Okay, I’m kidding but actually it is hard to find a few athletes who are handsome for everyone and participate in the Olympic Games. Remarkably, on the Internet there are lists of hot female athletes, but a list of handsome men is hard to find. So maybe this is the first complete list, fasten your seatbelts!

Andy Roddick
He is an American Tennis player from Omaha, Nebraska. In august this year he becomes 30 years old. When he started with his tennis career, he was just 13 years old. Since that day, he won 593 out of 794 matches and he has 30 titles on his name. His looks were very useful with finding a woman. Namely, he is married to supermodel Brooklyn Decker, who is known about the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. Ladies, from now on, we love to watch this tennis games!

Dex Elmont
The cute judoka with the baby face from Rotterdam, the Netherlands.  Imagine this guy when he was four years old! At this age he started with judo, only because his mother forced him to go. Sweet, with his puppy eyes! Besides that, he is an amazing athlete. From the day he started with judo matches, he only went home with one or more golden medals. His first real triumph was the bronze medal at the Youth Olympics, after he won his first World Cup medals and then breaks through internationally. Furthermore, he conquered the fifth place of Europe twice and he qualified himself for the Olympics of Beijing. Upcoming Olympic Games in London, you can check out this cutie for yourself, where his next big goal is the golden medal. The only thing we say is: go for it and show us what you got!

Matthew Mitcham
He is a diver from Brisbane, Australia. At the Olympic Games of 2008 in Beijing, he was just 20 years old and won gold with his jump from the 10-meter tower. His jump contained two and a half backward flip with two and a half screw, which was very difficult but he did his job very well. Also in 2008, he discloses publicly that he is gay and no longer wants to hide his feelings. He admitted that he experienced his childhood as difficult, with many obstacles. Moreover, he hopes that his coming out helps athletes in similar situations. Whatever his sexuality may be, this guy is still nice to watch!

Especially for the part of the population that adores women, we end up with a list of the three most beautiful sportswomen.

Fatima Moreira de Melo
Perhaps this is the most discussed hockey player, because of her looks. However, she gained a large number of first places and golden medals. For example, the first place on the World Championship Hockey in Madrid and the golden medal at the Olympic Games 2008 in Beijing. She quit playing hockey and switched to a career of a professional poker player. In the meantime, she played supporting roles in movies, she was modeling for different purposes and she had been the face of the Dutch bank ‘Rabobank’. For men who like to see her sweat during a hockey match, the party is over. But Google her name and it will show you some spicy pictures in your search results.

Alicia Sacramone
An artistic gymnast, 24 years old and she has a large number of victories on her name. She won silver as a member of the US Olympic team in 2008 in Beijing and she won nine career World Championships medals, including three golden ones, four silvers and two bronze medals. All in all, this is the greatest career performance ever in US history! Besides, she once was in the US ‘Team of the Year’, four times ‘Sportswoman of the Year’ and was called ‘Athlete of the Week’. In addition, she was going to school but she quitted, because Brown’s University was not the right atmosphere for her. She appeared as a CoverGirl, in a commercial and designed for a men’s fashion company. Perhaps the most interesting note is that she appeared nude in ESPN’s 2011 ‘Body Issue’. Keep that in mind, when you see her next time on the Olympics!

Christina Vukicevic
This woman was born the 18th of June 1987 in Lørenskog, Norway. Christina might seem just another pretty face, but she is more than just beautiful.. She is a hurdler. She got her first international medal, a gold one, during the European Youth Summer Olympic Festival in 2003. After a lot of other youth matches, she made her senior global debut at the World Championships in 2007 and ran a personal best of 13.07 seconds. At the moment, her personal records are 7.83 seconds at the 60 meters hurdles and 12.74 seconds at the 100 meters hurdles. Let us hope that we can see this young woman shine on the Olympics 2012!
